  • Charging an electric car is considerably cheaper than filling a traditional vehicle with fuel. The cost of charging can vary, depending on your electricity tariff and the size of the battery in your electric vehicle, but taking an average-sized vehicle battery of around 50kWh and assuming that your overnight charging tariff is 8 pence per kWh, you’d be paying 0.08 x 50 which would be £4 to fill from empty to full. Depending on your vehicle’s range capacity, this could give you a range of around 150-180 miles (based on WTLP figures).   • A standard single phase home charger will charge at a maximum rate of just under 7.4kW per hour. Based on a 50kWh battery, it would take around 6 hours and 45 minutes to charge from empty to fully charged.   • You don’t have to change energy provider when you get an electric vehicle, however many people find that they are able to get more competitive tariffs when they shop around.

  • You won’t need a smart meter to own and use an EV charger, however, you will need one in order to benefit from the most competitive electric vehicle charger tariffs as they require smart meters in order to facilitate smart charging.

  • Smart charging is a safe and convenient way of charging your electric vehicle at times when demand for electricity is lower, for example at night, or when there is lots of renewable energy on the grid.

  • You no longer require a driveway to install a home EV charger. Products are now available to enable electric vehicle owners to safely route charger cables across public footpaths. The government even operates a grant scheme to assist homeowners and residents with the extra costs associated with their installation.   • You don’t need to inform your energy provider that you are installing an Electric Vehicle Charger, however you will probably want to tell them so you can get a cheaper charging tariff. It is however, necessary to inform the District Network Operator (DNO) who are responsible for the upkeep of your local electrical network. But don’t worry; we will do that for you! It’s all part of the service!

  • Yes. You can allow people access to use your electric vehicle charger and charge them at a rate set by you, for that service. All modern Electric Vehicle Chargers are OCPP (open charge point protocol) compliant, meaning that they can all be used with various back-end software that can manage billing and user access on behalf of owner/operators.
